Morgantown Police charged two people in connection with a robbery that resulted in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man late Tuesday.

Timothy Riley, of Romney, was dead from a single shot from a handgun when Morgantown Police responded to the shooting call at 9:26 p.m. Monday. Police believe Riley was one of three men attempting to rob a home at 2612 University Ave. on Monday; he was shot and killed by the resident.

Michael L. Davis, 22, of Morgantown was charged with first degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first degree robbery Tuesday night. Davis fled from the home after Riley was shot.

Robert Larry Johnson, 24, of Romney, was also charged with first degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first degree robbery. Police believe that Johnson was waiting for Davis and Riley in a vehicle parked close to the home, and picked up Davis after he fled the scene.

Both men were arraigned by Monongalia County Magistrate Alan Wheeler Tuesday Night and were transported to North Central Regional Jail. Bond was set at $100,000 each.

Morgantown Police Lt. P.K. Scott said detectives are still investigating the incident.

Scott said no charges have been filed against the resident and that the handgun was "being checked out."

It is nice to know that in WV we still have the right to defend ourselves. This is my first post, so I hope it is right.

Horror-struck gun-grabbers are losing their lunches over this.

How dare the robbers be shot by someone who's not a police officer!

I really dislike this headline. It's similar to one the Philadelphia Inquirer ran recently, about a similar incident in that city. In both cases, the reader has the impression that the person who was killed was the would-be victim, rather than the robber.

Agreed. "Suspect" or "Robber" instead of "Man" would have been much more appropriate.

I think whoever wrote the headline was an affirmative action employee. That wouldn't make the grade in a college journalism course. How does it pass in the real world?
