Rush Visits Set Of 24 ("Folks, it was a huge shock ... I had so much fun.")

~snip~

... I went out to the set and the offices of the Fox hit TV show 24 of which I've become a huge fan.

I only heard of the show late last season but it wasn't enough time to watch it, so I started watching it from the beginning this year, and when it was time to go to Afghanistan I bought all three previous seasons on DVD and took them on the airplane and I watched on the way over there 18 episodes, bam, bam, bam, just got hooked. I mean, there's no commercials in the DVD, so I didn't even have time to go to the bathroom. Well, I did, I hit the pause button but I'm just trying to illustrate how I couldn't tear myself away. After the trip to Afghanistan was over on the way back home I watched the remaining six episodes of season one and got as many in on season two as possible. I mentioned this when I got back, that I had watched all these episodes, and it turns out that the creator and producer of the program, a guy named Joel Surnow, happens to be a huge fan of this program, a longtime fan. I am one of his idols. So he calls, "If you're ever out here, come by, we'd love to show you how we do our magic." So I took him up on it. I went out there yesterday, got there about 2:30 and left at 10:30. They were still shooting scenes, working on the last two episodes of the year, still shooting scenes about ten, 10:30 when I had to tear myself away.

If you're watching on the Dittocam you see this smoke jacket, what an appropriate day to have a smoking jacket and to wear one. This was given to me by the crew at 24, and it's got the 24 logo here on the left-front pocket. It was so much fun, these guys, I'm telling you, folks, there's a movement going on out in Hollywood that stunned me. I mean, there were hundred people there, in and out, a big party, and they did it in my honor. It was just so much fun. The thing started at four o'clock, it was a smoking room party and they had all kinds of people from the show, from outside the show, that came in. It was actors and actresses on the show who had been killed off but can't tear themselves away from the set, they keep coming back. It was just a hoot. Everybody dons their smoking jackets and lights up, sits around, snacks and so forth, pictures galore. I got to sit in on a casting session. They're casting a couple of lead female roles for next season, got to see how that's done. But these guys are all conservatives. You know, in fact Vince Flynn, the great novelist Vince Flynn has been hired just for the past two weeks, he's trying to help them come up with story lines for next season, but Vince is such a groupie of mine, he didn't help them yesterday with any story lines; he was too busy talking me and asking me questions about myself and the radio -- I'm kidding about him being a groupie. He's a big fan. They all were.

Folks, it was a huge shock, I'm out there in Hollywood, and, you know, when I show up normally where there's a security guard, I have to have a bodyguard to protect me from the security guard when it's in Hollywood. But this guy was waiting for a football for me to autograph. The eight hours just zoomed by. I watched a couple scenes, actually four or five scenes being shot as they're trying to wrap up this season. But it was just a tremendous, tremendous good time. And I can't thank them enough for all of the courtesy that they showed and the kindness out there. It was once in a lifetime trip. A lot of pictures taken from it, and when I get those pictures, we will post a whole bunch of them on the website. And they should be coming in rather soon because they were all digital. There was a person doing nothing but taking pictures out there for this thing. They did it up right. Just an amazing thing. It's the only Hollywood set I have ever been on that's actually bigger than what it looks like. It's huge if you watch this show, and most everybody does.

I've got to tell you something that happened, the funniest thing happened at the smoke party last night at the set of 24. They brought in this babe to be a bartender. She was about 5'12", and might have weighed I'm guessing below the waste, maybe 50 pounds, above the waist another 50, maybe 75, if you get my drift out there. I walked up there, grabbed a Diet Coke, go back and resume conversations, travel around, go to different room, come back. The last time I went to the bar I said, "Could I get another Diet Coke from you?" She said, "What's my name?" She had been introduced to me when she first arrived. She said, "If you don't remember my name, if you can't come up with my name, I'm not getting you anything." So I looked around, there was nobody there that I could ask, so I just said, "Lavern." "Do I look like a Lavern to you?" "Well, what does a Lavern look like? I thought it was Lavern." So I started guessing names and she'd hold the drink out to me, this tall glass of Diet Coke, and as I said each name she's pull it away. (Laughing) I mean, just a flat out tease. She finally told me her name was Joni and made me pour it myself, and I still enjoyed it! I still had a good time.

They are all conservatives (he thinks). LOL

Rush is going Hollywood?

I read an article a long time ago (mid-90's) about Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, and I remember a quote from Don Simpson to the effect that a lot of honchos in Hollywood secretly listened to Rush and found him hilarious and entertaining.

Last night's show certainly didn't paint "Amnesty Global" (aka Amnesty International) in a good light.

I am so addicted to seeing the show without commercial interruption on DVD. I've seen all the seasons that way. I rented the first two seasons, but when Season 3 came out, I bought the boxed set on a good deal on ebay, then turned around and sold it again on ebay to recoup some of the cost. That way, it ended up costing less than the rental price. Of course, if your rent a lot of DVD's (I don't) and are a Netflix junkie, you can do better than I do at the rental price.

They typically release the previous season in mid-December, so I plan on getting the boxed set to watch in between Christmas and New Years, when it seems that everything on TV is a rerun. We just settle in with some popcorn and have a "24 marathon."

Yeah, the theme of last night's show was basically that Amnesty's in bed with the terrorists. Loved it.

I saw last night's episode. Jack Bauer found a way around a weak kneed President and an ACLU lawyer. It brought to mind my favorite quote: "inter arma sint silent leges." Translated, "In time of war, the laws fall silent."

Last nights episode made it clear they aren't hard core knee-jerk DUer sorts. But I find it hard to believe many actuall conservatives work on the show. I know Keifer is a major lefty.

Still cool they were able to be cool to Rush.

So's Alan Dershowitz, but he's all for torture in the "ticking time-bomb" scenario too.

9/11 has shifted the lines, to some extent.

What is with this conservative "obsession" with 24? Rush, Glenn Beck, Jeff Katz all have a thing for it. Now I have a better idea where the conservative fanbase comes from.

My husband and I never misses an episode. We were like Rush, we had missed out on the First season so when FX had a 24 marathon, we watched it all day from noon to midnight. We can't get enough of it now.

No, I didn't see it. I'm just too impatient with all those cliffhangers. I wait until it comes out on DVD so that I can see it without commercials and I don't have to wait a week in between episodes.

Monday's episode was the best in years! The Oval Office scenes illustrated what the ACLU-types who gladly aid and abet people who want to destroy the country and kill millions never address: Unlike the likes of them, the POTUS doesn't have the luxury of doing nothing.

I was hoping that Jack Bauer would just clock the lawyer from "Amnesty Global."

Sounds like half the lefties on the show were doing what they always do. Acting.

I love '24'. I also am a dittohead. But if "24"s honchos are Rush fans, the cast of players better be on the right side of the adoration towards Rush or else. It is the Hollyweird way.

I think Rush was just so overjoyed at pleasant faces greeting him, and a set of 50lb boobs playing with his brain, (Which half is always tied behind his back), he lost his unbiased opinion, momentarily. :-)

I was hooked.

I know Keifer is a major lefty.

I'm going to need to see some sort of proof of that.

Kiefer's a hard guy to read. Most of his characters are unrelentingly dark figures, and his personal life is mostly undercover, with occasional gossip items about all-night cavorting. He was dumped by Julia Roberts days before their scheduled nuptials. He's better off. She's a flake.

One of Sutherland's best pals is Denis Leary, whose standup act is like Dennis Miller on crank. Leary is not a big lefty, although he is tight with John Kerry, who is a booster of his foundation for firefighters' families.

I'm with you. It's the only way to go. Unfortunately, I'm SO hooked on "The Shield" that I could not wait until next year to get the boxed set.

I think FX and Fox need to do a crossover where Vic Mackey visits Jack.

Are you confusing Keifer with his father Donald? The character he plays is quite a conservative guy and he's not wishy washy about what has to be done to keep the country safe. Jack Bauer is a man after my own heart, who isn't afraid to do the right thing even when its not the politically correct thing to do.

When American muslims started protesting each week's episode and whining about islam being "disrespected", it made me a fan for life.

This is the first season I've watched this show. The first several episodes were very good. But now, it's really become preposterous. Jack Bauer, the savior of mankind, has been in something like 10 gunfights and physical altercations in the course of 14 hours. I mean, doesn't he need a shower or something? But the thing that aggravates me the most about this show is the fact that the country is under nuclear threat, already town have been destroyed, and you're telling me that the CTU agents would stop to talk about their personal lives? Everytime Audrey starts folding her arms and whining I want to jump through the screen and kill her!! COME ON. If this is an indication as to how are CTU works here, I'M MOVING!!!!

AFAIK, Keifer is an American even though his grandfather, Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian pol who is credited with founding that countries < sarcasm> wonderful < /sarcasm> health care system.

OTOH, Douglas was a Baptist minister who had a mink farm so maybe he wasn't all that bad.

The only prominent Canadian leader-that I know of-who was good for this country was former Prime Minister Mulroney.

Let's hope that Stephen Harper-either in the next election, or the succeeding one-is able to restore a modicum of sanity to that country's foreign and domestic policies.
