to bolster his claim, misattributing a quote about Cruz to a former Senator.
First, Trump retweeted his social media director's link to a blog post about former Republican Senator Tom Coburn on Texas Sen. Cruz.
"Unreal! Highly respected Senator Tom Coburn- said this about Cruz," the business mogul tweeted, attributing the quote "He is, without a doubt, one of the most dishonest people in DC," to Coburn.
Trump then repeated the quote during a rally in North Augusta, South Carolina. "Did you see the Senator from Oklahoma just came out with a statement? One of the most incredible statements ... he came out with such an unbelievably strong statement that Ted Cruz is the most dishonest person."
In truth, that quote about Cruz came from a liberal blogger about four months ago, not from a former United States Senator in a recent statement...

Trump stands convicted as a liar and hypocrite.
If you would like to be added to the
There is no bigger liar I know than Donald J. Trump. He lies all the time. He’s just a big, fat liar.
This is breaking news. Could you please add this to the breaking news bar.
Sen. Coburn: Cruzâs ploy was dishonest
So, you opposed Cruz’s fight to get the House of Representatives to defund Obamacare?
Here’s a what Senator Tom Coburn said about Ted Cruz.
“I call it the ‘Cruz effect,’” Coburn, who retired from the Senate in 2014, told Sirius XM host Pete Dominick. “Look, when you tell people you can accomplish something that you can’t, for example, shutting down the government over the Affordable Care Act. When, in fact, you promise people in your speeches and your talk that we can do this, and by dinghy, we’re gonna get rid of the Affordable Care Act, and all we have to do is shut down the government.
“Well, that’s one thing to tell ‘em that,” the former Oklahoma senator said. “It’s a whole other thing to be able to accomplish that, and build a coalition that once you shut it, that it doesn’t get opened up ‘till you win.
“So what happens to that is, once you’ve told people that, and you’ve put your finger — ‘everybody that doesn’t believe exactly like I believe, you’re not a patriot, you don’t care about the country’ — what you do is you create greater disappointment in the hinterlands, because you gave them a false hope, knowing that you couldn’t accomplish it, but it was about yelling, and screaming, and waving the flag,” he continued. “And so what happens is, there becomes less confidence in the Congress and its ability to do its job.
“You know, I came out of the Senate with one of the most conservative ratings ever in the history of the Senate. You know, it was like 98.8% in terms of conservative,” Coburn concluded. “And yet, I compromised all the time to accomplish things that were good for the country.”
What does your link have to do with Trump being an unrepentant liar?
Trump went down the wrong twitter off ramp here and got burned. Guess we’ll see if he apologizes.
Only an uncountable amount of “accidents” to go to catch up to Ted!
Hey, it’s late...but you actually made me chuckle on that one...lol
This story has been posted, over and over again.
Trump thinks that lies are a tool in negotiations. He calls it truthful hyperbole.
Only if you disregard that whole fake “conversion” to conservatism pablum that Trump serves up to his suckers.
It wasn’t just a twitter rant. Trump later repeated the false quote in a rally.
More deceitful, half-truth, half-lies from the Cruzboy fan club.
That is a very different statement than the quote that Trump falsly attributed to Sen. Coburn. Trump did this first on twitter and then later after it had been clearly debunked and the Trump Campaigns tweets deleted, Trump went out and personally repeated this lie at his rally. There is no way to avoid the fact that Trump knowingly lied at his rally while trying to call Cruz a liar.
Wow, it looks like it was real after all.
