Joaquin Castro: 'President Trump has started his mass deportation plan'
San Antonio Express-News ^ | Feb 17, 2017 | By Kelsey Bradshaw,

In a flurry of tweets Thursday afternoon, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, accused President Donald Trump of putting a "mass deportation plan" into place. Castro's tweetstorm came shortly after an intense Trump press conference, during which the president discussed his electoral college win, Russia, former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn and the media, among other topics.

Castro railed on questions that remain after a meeting with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

"After attending the ICE meeting it's hard not to conclude that President Trump has started his mass deportation plan," Castro tweeted. "Only dreamers with no offenses, including traffic tickets or perceived gang affiliations, seem exempt."

He said ICE officials did not answer the following questions: How many new people are in detention centers? What is the breakdown of countries of origin of those detained? What is the breakdown of visa overstays versus "border-crossers?"

At Trump's press conference, the president said DACA is a "very, very difficult subject" for him. "We're gonna deal with DACA with heart. I have to deal with a lot of politicians, don't forget and I have to convince them that what I'm saying is — is right," he said. "And I appreciate your understanding on that. But the DACA situation is a very, very — it's a very difficult thing for me because you know, I love these kids, I love kids. I have kids and grandkids. And I find it very, very hard doing what the law says exactly to do and you know, the law is rough."

In San Antonio, Josue Romero, a second-year student at the Southwest School of Art, called his family Wednesday night to tell them he’d been arrested, his mother said. Thursday afternoon, Romero was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement immigration.

Romero came to the U.S. when he was 4 years old, said his mother, Norma Velasquez. He received a work permit under former the DACA program which gives two-year reprieves from deportation to some young undocumented immigrants, and was waiting for a renewal, Velasquez said. Her son wants to be an architect.

The family came to the U.S. to escape violence and lack of economic opportunity in Honduras, she said. “We’re afraid that they’re going to deport him because he came here when he was a very young and he doesn’t know anything about Honduras,” Velasquez said.

(now the rest of the story)

Jail records show that Romero was booked Wednesday for possession of two ounces or less of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. Deferred action can be revoked for committing a “significant misdemeanor,” which in the case of drug charges usually involves allegations of trafficking or distribution. A spokeswoman for ICE said she was researching Romero’s case in response to questions from the Express-News.

President Trump last month signed an executive action that greatly expands who ICE can target for deportation, but he has not revoked the deferred action program. Castro said ICE will "only be affected by how big their budget is." "For those who argue it's the same as previous (administrations), ICE fully agrees mandate to deport is broader and will ask for (a) larger budget," he said.

I believe this is the Democrat power house to take out TCruz in 2018. He could succeed; time will tell.

I only wish that were true.
So far they are only committing to deporting the illegal aliens with additional criminal records of crimes committed here.

DACA is still operating like it was when Obama invented it.

Hey waa-keen, since you don’t seem to remember, this was one reason President Trump was elected. The majority of the citizens of the United States want this to happen.

I wish you could be deported along with your weenie of a brother.

I don’t believe this. I have not seen a series of 5 mile-long convoys of buses headed south on I5 yet.

I predict 1/3 of the Republicans that voted for Cruz in 2012 will not vote for him again in 2018.

Because he lied to them when he neglected to tell them he was a dual citizen.

They elected a Canadian to the US Senate seat from the great state of Texas.

It won’t sit well.

We still don’t know how or when he got his US citizenship.
We haven’t seen a CRBA or anything that would prove he is a US citizen, all we have seen is a Canadian birth certificate.

I would vote for ANYONE to keep either of the Commie Castro pendejos from gaining more power.

I had enough with Julian as mayor here and in settling Moslems all over the country as HUD Secretary, not to mention this bitch in Congress. No more.

Yea most come to flee the violence... and they use our tax dollars to vacation where it is too dangerous to live; yea right. And even if it is dangerous - fight for your country and make it better since the fight is between the socialists and communnists (e.g., drug lords, etc.) and has nothing to with bringing your hard failing leftist views into America.

No we aren't. Every dollar spent on deportation will save at least $10 in social costs, maybe more.

Yes, we need to start with the worst criminals and work our way up to the chronic wards of the state and such. And, yes, exceptions will need to be made on a case-by-case basis for those who have shown themselves to be assets to the country. But all of that starts with putting fear in them to get legalized or get out.

Sure would be ironic if Trump found out that this guy is also here without proper documents.

IMO, if you were born here & both parents were also undocumented, then you should NOT be considered a US citizen.
