Rumbling in Ankara (Turkey)
The Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, November 7, 2017 | ANALYSIS/OPINION

Mr. Erdogan clearly has big dreams. He made a deal during the summer with Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation to build three nuclear power plants. Since 2001 the government has declined to further invest in its dilapidated conventional power system, which is largely dependent on importing natural gas, as the supplier of nation’s electricity. The system is inadequate.

The $20 billion deal with Moscow, in the works since 2010, would build the Akkuyu nuclear power plant — Turkey’s first nuclear plant ever — which is planned to be operational in 2023. Turkey is only the latest country to make a deal with the Russian energy corporation, after Iran, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. This is regarded as not only a Moscow play for power in the Middle East, but a new source of desperately needed revenue. Russia has been hurt by sanctions imposed on Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine.

Imagine? Unstable Erdogan the Islamist who suffers with Neo Ottoman dreams acquiring Nuclear Power plants? The springboard to Nuke Weapons.

And his recent cooperation with Iran and Syria? Put that cocktail together and you can see how dangerous his ambitions really are.

Now we know why Russia wants our uranium.

Bingo, we have a winner.

Russia? The energy company masquerading as a country.

And it is a company with Nukes.

But I'd rather take my chances with Putin than those Russia partners with. Imagine what the Mad Mullah 12ers and the Jihadi’s would do with real Nukes?

The book says that after “the battle” Baghdad will be uninhabitable.

I think you mean Damascus. Baghdad was founded around AD 800.

Turkey going nuclear energy makes welcome sense. But it is interesting to see Russia which is where Turkey gets its gas from developing that aspect. It should have been US because of better designs but we have no no nuclear nuts running the show..

Nuclear Power plants doesn’t mean making bombs Japan has nuclear power plants while there’s no doubt they have the “tek” to construct a bomb Would it be in Russia’s interest to add Erdogan to that list ?.

The distinguishing feature of all Russian export reactors is you can’t produce any weapon grade material with that. Also they insist on their control over fueling and take out spent fuel too.

If anything Turkey needs nuke power. Conventional energy is insanely expensive and also power generation is falling apart. Outages are so common that they have huge generators atop condos everywhere ‘just in case’.
