Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for hundreds of home as a wind-driven brush fire quickly grew to 2,500 acres and was spreading rapidly in the Santa Paula area Monday evening, Ventura County authorities said.

Heard they were on Alert, serious stuff
This is liable to be a very big fire with the strong Santa Anas and the fire starting at night. No air drops til sunup.

In Santa Paula, such winds are called east winds, not Santa Ana winds.

They have to fly so high and the winds are rough making 8t hard for turn copters.

Thomas Aquinas College has been evacuated.
This fire is moving very quickly. One estimate has it tripling in size in the last 90 minutes. Horrible.
The fire apparently started near Thomas Aquinas College, which is probably why it’s called the Thomas Fire. This conservative Roman Catholic college has won acclaim in conservative academic circles for its curriculum and the quality of its faculty.
This does not look good at all. I doubt if there will be all that much fire fighting tonight. I would suspect they are rounding up their resources for a big push at daybreak.

the good news is that the winds are almost due east..and not pushing it into the city
the bad news is I think this will burn all the way to the ocean and/or the city of Ventura
but the good news with that is there is time to get resources in and it will be daylight by then
Santa Rosa in OCT had a fire just like this but burned into the heavy populated areas before many resources could arrive
