California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has led the quest for Trump administration documents relating to its decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which delays deportation for minors whose parents brought them to the United States illegally.
President Obama introduced DACA in June 2012. It was a controversial move that many on the other side of the aisle said was an overuse of executive authority. Trump announced plans to end the program this past fall, citing those same constitutional concerns.
Still, Becerra seems to suspect the administration is guilty of wrongdoing in terms of its own immigration policies. He has filed a Freedom of Information Act request, arguing that refusing to honor it is "an absolute abuse of power and discretion." The attorney general brought his demands to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Wednesday.
"What is this administration trying to hide when it doesnt want to reveal to us the basis of their decision to try to deny 200,000 DACA Dreamers in California the chance to remain?" Becerra admiringly described DACA participants who are loudly demanding an extension of their time in this country as tough." He said they have been emboldened enough to even shout him down. "That's the American way," he said, adding, "I believe the DACA Dreamers are here to stay." He also called them "according to," according to the Daily Caller.
Some lawmakers have urged Trump to reconsider DACA because reversing the policy would harm young people who are in the U.S. through no fault of their own. For some, it's the only home they know.
Obama said Trump's decision to rescind DACA is downright "cruel." Yet, Trump did enforce a six-month delay, giving Congress a chance to try and make the program lawful.
Too bad. Sooo sad
Go pound sand
“”That’s the American way,” he said, “
No. That’s the Mexifornia Leftard way.
Sorry DACAs but your parents should not have brough you here they should not have disobeyed the law. They put you in your current situation, not Trump.
If Trump had just said no in the first place maybe this would be over by now. I think he erred in that, I don’t blame him though he’s done a lot for us, no one is perfect.
Meanwhile the illegals are scattering and Trump is holding a hammer over the heads of Congress to see if they can get ANYTHING done on immigration. Fun times!
There is nothing in the DACA eligibility requirements that require you to be brought here by a parent. You can come here unaccompanied up to the age of 15 and qualify. And many thousands have come here this way.
When has Mexico opened it’s borders to all Americans or to those from Central/South America? Why did these punks come here? FREE RIDE. Eisenhower and all up until Bush and his rotten NAFTA enforced our border. GWB is no damn better then Obama.
That's quite a charge. Any examples, or is he just throwing out nonsense?
Id like to hear they rounded up and have deported his self-admitted illegal alien family members and arrested him for conspiracy, etc.
Hey Becerra, why don’t you explain why you are trying to make the sale of baby body parts the law of the land in California?
I think it is Illegal for a reason you damn jackass.
“What is this administration trying to hide when it doesnt want to reveal to us the basis of their decision to try to deny 200,000 DACA Dreamers in California the chance to remain?”
He needs to be asked that whether he would be happy if Trump approved DACA but built the wall first.
I think it's something called......ummmm......the....uh...law.
Because being "nice" is so much more important than being lawful...
Refusing to reveal the internal policy discussions of the executive branch is a textbook use of executive privilege.
hey Xavier Becerra...cause it’s unconstitutional ?
What we really want to know is, how are you going to weasel out of your part in interference in the Awan investigation...
As head of the House Democratic Caucus, it was you who gave authorities an elaborate falsified image of Awan’s secret server designed to hide the massive violations. Authorities considered the false image they received to be interference in a criminal investigation.
You got some ‘splainin to do.
