Californias last nuclear power plant Diablo Canyon, whose contentious birth helped shape the modern environmental movement will close in 2025, state utility regulators decided Thursday.
The unanimous vote by the California Public Utilities Commission will likely bring an end to nuclear energys long history in the state, even as California fights to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that come from conventional power plants. State law forbids building more nuclear plants in California until the federal government creates a long-term solution for dealing with their waste, a goal that remains elusive despite decades of effort.
With this decision, we chart a new energy future by phasing out nuclear power here in California, said commission President Michael Picker. Weve looked hard at all the arguments, and we agree the time has come.

Illegal Aliens + Bicycle-driven generators = Solution.
California will be going dark real soon.
They’re already in the dark, Moonbeam keeps them there.
Candles for light and burn little trees for heat...That’s the spirit!!!
but literally, in the dark...
one gets what they vote for.
Is there an issue the leadership of California can grasp?

Don’t forget the unicorns. A single organically-fed unicorn can power an entire city. (Or an entire county. Or an entire state. It all depends on how much evil Global Warming there is.)
Time for LNG to make its introduction in CA.
They all use electric cars so they don’t need power plants. DUH.
In a brilliant move by the beloved leader of our own Brown Family, Governor Jerry Brown has announced that the beleaguered frarms of the state will be taken for the greater good and re-purposed as bio, solar, and wind power sites. When asked about food production in the state, the Governor replied, “There is plenty in the grocery stores, so that is not a problem. Any slack can be taken up by our neighbors in China.”
Only if AZ and NM powerplants will stop selling them power from the 4 corners, Page, Sholow plants.
You saw the article about the poop powered lamp, right?
Perfect for California’s cities!
The people of California are killing their tourism.
Illegal alien latinos eating lots of bad burritos will be able to provide enough methane forever.
My wife has been to the Diablo nuclear plant, having worked as a manager at PG&E. Some of those 1500 workers are security guards. She says it's somewhat intimidating to walk the corridors, as high up above there are guards with rifles pointed down at you, to make sure you don't stray beyond the painted color lines on the floor into secure areas. They have had continual threats from protestors and troublemakers, so security is extremely tight. It is stupid to close a fully functional plant, particularly as the risks are low, and California is suffering from a shortage of electricity. But stupid is as the politicians do.
Another win for the Regressives.
Illegals are used to living without electricity but can the Hollywood idiots
We tired that (LNG) in the 70’s. SoCalGas and PG&E were going to build a facility in Oxnard to receive LNG from Indonesia but the enviro-nazis lobbied it away.
