Five thousand people in the area were evacuated overnight so police bomb disposal officers could cut through the bombs' casing and burn off the explosives inside.

From time to time they find unexploded bombs usually by someone digging in the area. This is unusual because they found both of them within a few days of each other. I’m sure there are more out there.
Just glad no one got hurt.
Some brave-ass dudes. Amazing.
Delivered by admiral Halsey and the Third Fleet, 16 January 1945.
Hong Kong - neat place....
As long as nobody starts tapping on the fuze, ain’t going to detonate.
After this amount of time, that’s no longer true. Ask the poor bastards that keep getting blown up in Europe with WW1 or WW2 munitions.
I heard the old BBC Series “Danger UXB” from the 80’s was pretty good. A bit before my time but maybe something to check out?
Are you sure that wasn’t the Won Bang Construction company?
Worst I ever had to render safe was a 4 Deuce Mortar round an old Army troop found while excavating a area on a ranch ...... He decided to fill the hole back in for safety till we got there to safe it ..... 8 feet of cold frozen muddy fill on the uxo.
Myself and my P2 dug carefully for about two miserable cold wet muddy hours till we found an old windmill sucker pump bullet weight that had leather washers this “army” 4.2 Mortarman had positively identified ...... as a 4 deuce with charge bags still on it ...... we were less than pleased.
About 6 months later he called us again an drew up the device on a piece of paper. Back in WWII the base was a bombardier / navigator school where most of the old M117’s were filled with concrete for training purposes . They would drop a few dozen concrete filled and 2 live ones at the end of training.
We checked out a 45 pound pentolite shape charge and blew his concrete training bomb all to hell as we were done digging up his scrap metal ...... note. Cattle on a ranch love to gather around trucks that they may be carrying feed .
Pretty sure the guy was chasing cows for a month . Never bothered calling again.
Two calls for two inert lumps of junk?
Call the UXB guys out of retirement
Gotta respond ...... my yob. Years of such but better to be safe than sorry.
