HOUTZDALE, Pa. -- After almost 30 years in solitary confinement, convicted killer Daniel Delker can still keep tabs on the outside world.

He has cable television and a radio in his cell for news. He reads Tom Clancy and Elmore Leonard novels for popular culture. And the prison grapevine provides him with updates on other notorious inmates housed throughout Pennsylvania's vast corrections system.

Krakoff, his attorney, said the case has merit

Put Krakoff in a cell with Delker. Then he won't be in solitary anymore. Problem solved.

Release him - about 6' in the air, with a noose around his neck.

So what's wrong about not letting a guy who killed a guard an opportunity to kill another one?

"Do you know a prisoner in Pittsburgh named John Keen?" he (Delker) asked a visitor last week. "Keen killed three other inmates in three different cases, but he's not in the hole anymore. I haven't been written up for a misconduct violation in seven years, but I can't get out."

Delker is a piece of scum who is comparing himself to other pieces of scum.

I doubt it. Any bets on the life exectancy of the lawyer?

I expect that he will eat the lawyer. Not to worry. There are plenty of lawyers so he won't ever be hungry.

"Hey Man, I only kills me a guard once. Can't a man get a break around here, sheesh, it's tough living like this"

My suggestion is that perhaps he should be given rope and opportunity if he's tired of living like that.

I'm guessing he feels "I done wrong, but don't punish me forever for it" when in fact he punished his victim forever.

Doesn't sound like solitary to me. Now if he was kept naked in a cell painted battleship grey, with nothing in there with him but a straw mat on the floor and a toilet and sink (we must be civilized about this, after all) then he would be in solitary.

I honestly think we should keep each and every prisoner like this for the full duration of their sentence. No exercise room. No opportunities to mess with other prisoners. Just a nice, quiet cell. Of course we would keep the temperature comfortable. Some prisoners are innocent, after all.
