battlefield pick-up
Sounds like an interesting weapon but I would be scared of "battlefield pick-up". Especially after the enemy has found out that you use it.

We're talking about tiny units like A-teams and SEAL squads operating behind enemy lines where there are umpteen bazillion AK-47s. The bad guys are never going to be able to pin down the movements of our teams to the point where they would be able to seek sabotaged ammo for them.

If they could track their movements that well, they'd just go and kill them with companies of soldiers.

Seeding sabotaged ammo works well only in the reverse situation, where small clandestine teams (think MAC/SOG on the HCM Trail) put out tampered ammo etc among a large enemy army unit.
