Casey takes no credit for good deed By Hal McCoy hmccoy@DaytonDailyNews.com

CINCINNATI | This is a Paul Harvey Special, one of those, "Now you know the rest of the story."

After an extra-inning Cincinnati Reds victory over Houston two Saturdays ago in Great American Ball Park, a woman driving on Reed Hartman Highway hit an orange barrel, tried to correct a spin and rolled her car several times.

A young man driving behind her saw the flipping car and was at its side almost before it stopped. He pulled the woman from the car and took her to his car.

He called 911 for help on his cell phone and stayed with the woman, retrieving her a Gatorade when she said she was thirsty.

When the police arrived, the young man helped her out of his car and she said, "What's your name?"

"Sean," he said. And left.

Only then did the police tell her that the good samaritan was Sean Casey of the Cincinnati Reds. He told nobody. The story came to light when the woman wrote the Reds about it.

The true character of someone is how they act when no one is looking.

In these difficult times that is MLB, its nice to hear stories about the good a ball player does that sneaks into the news.

Great story. There was a similar incident in Georgia back in the early 1980s when Herschel Walker was still playing football at the University of Georgia. He stopped to rescue someone in a burning car, and ended up saving someone's live by ripping one of the doors off to get them out.

Oh, I've got a single bone, alright.

Too bad for you that it's an indecent bone.
