Paul Mulshine has gotten even crankier in the years since he moved to the Star Ledger from Philadelphia.  He has libertarian leanings and would like to ban SUVs but many times he hits the nail square on the head.

I've yet to meet a person with "Libertarian leanings" who wants to ban SUVs. I don't know this writer or the "Mike" fellow he talks about, but there are legions of people out there who have come to know Rush. Based on what I've read from the column, I conclude that the writer is a jerk.

"He is simply an entertainer who uses conservatism to sell a wide range of products."

I think it more accurate to describe Limbaugh as a conservative who sells a wide range of products in order to get his message accross. And get rich, of course.

However, I concur with the author in condemning Rush's generally favorable treatment of tobacco use.

Don't want to pick on Rush now---I hope his treatment works and feel like losing his hearing is enough punishment, but the writer hit the nail on the head in calling Rush an entertainer---I'm quite certain that if someone paid him $300 million to host a wildly liberal talk show, he would.

Is his picture in the dictionary next to "conflicted?"

I might do it myself, not that anyone would ask me too, since I'm not qualified. But, actually, I consider Rush to be a man of strong convictions, fighting for the cause in which he believes.

BTW, re your screen name, which founding father do you admire the most?

Just a question, not a challenge. How is banning SUVs compatible with libertarian leanings?

It's not.  But that's Paul for you.  He would prefer we all be zipping around in sports cars.

(So would I but I've grown used to my minivan!)

"It was at that moment that I realized that this clown had somehow fused in his head the identity of Billy Crystal, the comedian, and William Kristol, the writer, to create this new personality, Bill Krystal."

I wonder if this jackass realizes that Bill is short for William, and that "Kristol" and "Krystal" are pronounced is pretty much the same way. But, rather than consider that they guy just didn't know how to spell his last name, he comes up with this garbage.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't be questioning other people's conservatism if I was this guy.

The writer is an elistist who claims that because someone misspelled Kristol's (I may have just misspelled it too) name that he doesn't know the difference between the comedian and the conservative pundit with similar names.

He's obviously jealous of Rush's success.

I do agree with him about Rush's irrational attitude towards anyone with an anti-smoking attitude. There are some valid complaints, but cigarettes do cause cancer and anyone who works to persuade children from starting to smoke is one of the good guys.

"...That's right, the antismoking hysteria has now reached a point where Little League teams are wearing uniforms with the team name Smoking Kills."

I didn't hear Rush say that, but assuming he did, Rush really blew it there. It's one thing to make fun of lawyers and politicians who try to enrich themselves by claiming that their tobacco-using clients had no idea that smoking was hazardous to their health, but to make fun of a guy who organizes a little league team and urges kids not to smoke cigarettes is insane. This guy Sawyer wasn't blaming the cigarette industry for his father's death, he was simply urging youngsters not to smoke.

Though Limbaugh has endorsed the drug war, he seems to have a soft spot for certain drugs. He has admitted to abusing prescription sedatives and is going into rehab. That's nice, but in the past he consigned his fellow drug abusers not to rehab but to prison.

Summarizing Rush's hypocritcal approach to the drug issue: "Tobacco and `prescription pain medication' good -- less harmful drugs that I don't use bad."

My email to the Star Ledger .. had to email it to the head of the Opinion department .. this weasel has no email address published that I could find:

Does Mr. Mulshine have an email address? If so, I cannot find it posted on your site. If he does not, you can pass this along to him:

Mr. Mulshine,

What a pathetic thing for you to do. Everyone can get their jabs in for someone who confessed to abusing prescription painkillers for chronic pain. You're commentary is nothing out of the ordinary ... more pack mentality. Your snide, derisive cynical comments are more indicative of your character than exhibiting any journalistic cleverness.

I could almost see the drool seeping out of the corners of your grinning mouth.

Millions of people suffer from chronic pain. I have family members who are hostage to pain meds for their very daily mobility. Funny how you pack followers don't do feature stories on regular pain sufferers who risk much to keep going and aren't the #1 radio talk show host in America, or have a conservative audience and wide influence. That might be a beneficial exercise.

Humility comes to all of us, sooner or later. I pray your comeuppance isn't paintfully devastating. I wouldn't be too cocky, if I were you .. karma has a way of playing "gotcha." That's just life. In the meantime, pile on.

Every friend I have in NJ will now know about you, and I'll encourage them to stop reading your newspaper.

This article is so stupid that I refuse to answer it except to say that those who agree or are piling on aren't worthy of shining Rush's shoes!

The last time I listened to Rush he was a NAFTA loving, job-exporting, bomb-the-world, tax-cuts for me, Neo-con. I hope he recovers both physically and mentally.

Gads do you remember that facade he put up about his ear operation to restore his hearing. I actually believed him then, no more. Throw in suckups to Ginrich and Bennett. What a fakeroo.
