I've come to realize that a lot of newspaper columnists have a serious resentment of people like Rush Limbaugh because of the disparity in their incomes. Rush Limbaugh may not be any smarter than Mulshine, but because he has a weekly audience of 20 million people he earns many times more money than Mulshine. It really shows in this column, doesn't it?

Well, one thing's for sure...Rush did more single-handedly to PROMOTE the Conservative cause and agenda in this country than all the Rush-bashers combined.

This sums up Rush Limbaugh:

Take yesterday's Wall Street Journal ediorial page, and package it for Joe Sixpack. That's 80% of his show.

I happen to like listening to Rush, and I think he has done a great service bringing mainstream conservatism to the masses. Surely the Big Ideas, like CUT TAXES FIRST, are ones most conservatives can agree on.

But, for better or worse, he sure ain't no Pat Buchannan.

I'm quite certain that if someone paid him $300 million to host a wildly liberal talk show, he would.

I'm more certain that you would, since Rush already has his $300,000,000 and you don't.

I concur with the author in condemning Rush's generally favorable treatment of tobacco use.

You may be confusing his 'favorable treatment of tobacco use' with his belief that business owners should have the right of self-determination about whether or not to allow smoking on their premises.

"You may be confusing his 'favorable treatment of tobacco use' with his belief that business owners should have the right of self-determination about whether or not to allow smoking on their premises."

Could be. He is right on that score, of course. Yet tobacco is such a scourge that I hate to hear him spend so much time defending it. But yeah, you are right, if businesses aren't permitted to allow their customers to use tobacco, which is legal, then total control of those businesses by government seems well within the bounds of possibility.

On the subject of tobacco. A trend I've noticed in the last couple of years is that more and more young guys seem to be chewing. At times, the juices on the floors of job sites are truly disgusting. I preferred smoke.

I used to chew and smoke, though it's been a long time since I have used tobacco at all. It accounted for the early deaths of both my parents, though.

I chewed in high school, mainly as a form of rebellion, I think. The stuff never failed to make me light headed and dizzy. Some of us kids were chewing in study hall, which we were allowed, spitting into little dixie cups that we had on our desks. I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that that may not be allowed these days in school. OTOH, most other things were stricter.

If the definition of "Conservative" is one who celebrates Apollian Order over Chthonian Chaos, marries his childhood sweetheart, has the celebratory 12 children and goes to the Church of his Baptism every Sunday, Rush is not and never has been a Conservative and most Free Republicans are not either.

If the definition of "Conservative" is to introduce cultural dissonance into the Soviet Socialism that has overtaken large chunks of the planet with his exposition of overwhelmingly obvious contradictions and errors of logic he is and always has been a master Conservative.

Best regards,

Most lung cancers are found in smokers, but only 10% of smokers get lung cancer. And that's a fact those with an agenda like to play down --- you haven't heard it, have you? Look it up.

Number one, that's 10 percent too many.

Number two, I spoke against people who think that it's okay to try to prevent CHILDREN from smoking, and you somehow take offense at THAT?

"Number one, that's 10 percent too many."

I see you have a problem with things being put into logical perspective when it's inconvenient to your feelings about certain matters.

Since driving at 5 mph versus 55 mph lowers the percentage of highway deaths dramatically, to be consistent, do you also feel that the difference in percentage is "[?] % too many"?

"Number two, I spoke against people who think that it's not okay to try to prevent CHILDREN from smoking, and you somehow take offense at THAT?"

No. I'm an emotionally mature adult, and don't take offense at the beliefs of others, even if they're wrong.

But you seem to have taken offense that I put things in perspective.

And now you have made it necessary for me to also point out that you are being disengenuous, and you know it, when you make the ludricrous inference that Rush (or any other rational, responsible adult), thinks people are wrong to advise children not to smoke.

Don't waste your time trying to defend your position, either, because I have listened to Rush every single day for many years and also tape his programs. I KNOW what he thinks and believes, and you have misrepresented him.

For someone going on about feelings, you sure have displayed strong emotionalism on this topic. Sorry I touched a nerve by being logical. You go ahead and pretend that there's something wrong with discouraging children from smoking, if that makes you feel better.

"..pretend that there's something wrong with discouraging children from smoking, if that makes you feel better."

Go and get the quote of my exact words that caused you to arrive at a polar opposite conclusion to my meaning.

I'll be glad to re-word the quote to your level of comprehension.

the ludricrous inference that Rush [...] thinks people are wrong to advise children not to smoke.

From the article:

"Hey, here's something for you diehard baseball fans to chew on: a new twist on Little League play out of Kentucky. Two teams -- one for 11-year-olds, the other for 12-year-olds -- both have the same unusual name: Smoking Kills. That's right, the antismoking hysteria has now reached a point where Little League teams are wearing uniforms with the team name Smoking Kills."

Limbaugh went on to denounce Mike as a "holier-than-thou" liberal.
