Can you imagine how scary it would be to live in a world where your livelihood depended on having the ‘correct’ politics? It’s the sort of thing you might expect of totalitarian regimes – Baathist Iraq under Saddam Hussain; everywhere that has ever tried communism; increasingly, Xi’s panopticon China – but definitely not of any liberal democracy in the 21st century. That dystopian future, though, may be much closer than you think. I only properly appreciated this recently when the podcast I’ve been doing for the last few years was mysteriously dropped by my regular employer, forcing me to seek...

Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Lady Gaga's 2013 single "Do What U Want (With My Body)" featuring R. Kelly has been removed from music streaming services. Gaga promised on Twitter Wednesday that the track would be removed in response to the multiple sexual assault allegations that Kelly is facing. Official music videos for "Do What U Want (With My Body)" were also removed from YouTube, however, a video of Gaga and Kelly performing the song at the American Music Awards remains.

snip... The video was changed to make it look as if Trump was sticking his tongue out languidly between sentences. In addition, the colors in the video look more saturated, leading the president’s skin and hair to appear more orange. During the speech, Trump said, “Hopefully, we can rise above partisan politics in order to support national security,” before briefly licking his lips and continuing to speak. In the video broadcast on Q13, it appears that Trump lets his tongue hang out, resting it on his lower lip for an unusually long time. snip...

Last October I wrote about the trio of academics, Helen Pluckrose, James A. Lindsay and Peter Boghossian, who submitted bogus papers to supposedly serious journals and discovered that a number of them were not only accepted but praised. Now one of the professors who engaged in that attempt to point out the deficiencies in contemporary scholarship fears he is in danger of losing his job. Peter Boghossian, an associate professor of philosophy at Portland State University, says the university is considering accusing him of “fabricating data” in the papers which were so obviously absurd they bordered on satire. From Fox...

I noticed last night that Fr. Mark Goring's post about Cardinal Wuerl had been taken down. Frankly, I was not surprised and wondered how long it would take for him to be clobbered. Not long actually. Today he posted this video about his superiors' order to "cease and desist."

Earthquake in the Vatican Media. The Winter Campaign of Bergoglio’s Stalwarts What never went right in three years for the flighty monsignor Dario Viganň, head of the Vatican dicastery for communication from 2015 to 2018, has come off in a few days, around Christmas, for his methodical successor, Paolo Ruffini. The two bastions of “L’Osservatore Romano” and the press office of the Holy See, which seemed to be unassailable because they were overseen by the secretariat of state, have both fallen under the control of the dicastery, which in turn is more firmly than ever in the hands of Pope Francis’s...

The voice of New York, come Jan. 7, may be no more. That’s because WABC, one of the city’s premiere, preeminent stations, is poised to boot Michael Savage — to deplatform him, in broadcast-speak, said his attorney, Daniel Horowitz, in a telephone interview. WABC isn’t saying such; in fact, a recent news release from the station indicates Savage will be moving into a new, fresher format designed to take advantage of emerging media, one that will see him do one hour of radio alongside one hour of podcast. But the behind-the-scenes story is a bit different. According to Horowitz, who...

In January of 2017, when the political controversy over Donald Trump’s perplexing win over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 national election was at its peak, my professor began his political psychology course by asking the lecture hall the following: “How many of you wish Hillary had won the election?” The question was voluntary, yet nearly every hand in the room shot up. “Okay, and how many of you supported Trump winning the election?” The room was quiet as not a single hand was raised, followed by a few chuckles. “Next, how many of you feel that liberals are safe walking...

France3, a French media outlet, has altered a photograph of a protest to change an anti-Macron sign into a pro-Macron sign France3, a French media outlet, has altered a photograph of a political protest sign to make the message on the sign the exact opposite of what is actually on the sign. The original sign (if translated to English) says, “Macron Resign.”But France3 removed the word “resign,” thus changing the meaning of the sign from anti-Macron to pro-Macron.A spokesperson from France3 said this alteration was due to “human error.”I’m not buying that. How do you “accidentally” use Photoshop (or whatever they were...

I was watching "Three Days of the Condor", a 70's political thriller. There is a scene where a CIA director (John Houseman) is pondering possible reasons that Robert Redford's character has gone rogue. In the original, Houseman says "For example, has he gone into business for himself? Was he turned around? Does someone operate him? Homosexual? Broke? Vulnerable? Could he be a soldier of fortune?" In the version on FIOS On-demand, the word "homosexual" has been clumsily edited to "sexual".

Google works with establishment conservative think tanks that argue against regulating the tech giant, one of which had its pro-Google opinions published in National Review, according to a new report. Audio recordings obtained by Wired reveal that Google cooperates with and funds a range of establishment conservatives in D.C. that help it fend off scrutiny and oversight from politicians. The organizations named in Wired’s report are the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), and the Cato Institute. ... In case anyone still takes bought-and-paid-for establishment arguments about free markets and competition seriously, that’s a special privilege Silicon...

University of Washington atmospheric scientist Cliff Mass has been called plenty of names, including climate “denier,” but it wasn’t until he came out against the state’s proposed carbon tax last month that he was accused of being a racist. Since then, Mr. Mass said he has been upbraided by the university’s diversity dean and subjected to a faculty “inquisition,” events that have stoked alarm about the threat posed by campus climate-change activism to academic freedom. “I’m really worried about the intolerance that has developed at the university,” Mr. Mass told The Washington Times. “It’s really a minority of graduate students...

California Democrat Ted Lieu bemoaned on Wednesday that though he would “love to be able to regulate the content of speech,” including that on Fox News, he can’t do it because of the U.S. Constitution. Lieu made the comments during an interview about the testimony of Google CEO Sundar Pichai at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, where he dismissed the allegations that the tech giant amplifies negative stories about Republican lawmakers, saying “if you want positive search results, do positive things." CNN host Brianna Keilar praised Lieu for his performance but asked whether other Democrats should have used the committee...

Rep. Ted Lieu (D., Calif.) said he would "love to be able to regulate the content of speech" during an interview Wednesday, noting he was prevented from doing that by the First Amendment. Lieu got attention a day earlier when Google CEO Sundar Pichai testified at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, assailing conservative claims of the tech giant's bias against them by reading positive and negative stories about Republican Reps. Steve Scalise (La.) and Steve King (Iowa), the latter of whom has repeatedly courted controversy with racially charged remarks. After CNN host Brianna Keilar praised Lieu for the "clever" stunt,...
