More from philosopher Ryszard Legutko’s The Demon In Democracy, in which the Polish Catholic academic, an anti-communist dissident, explores the similarities between communism and liberal democracy: The liberal-democratic man, especially if he is an intellectual or an artist, is very reluctant to learn, but, at the same time, all too eager to teach. This trait of his character is in a way understandable once we remember that his nature was considerably impoverished by his turning back on standards of classical and Christian anthropology. He lost, or rather, as his apologists would have put it, was relieved of the intellectual instruments...

Austin, Texas has been a bastion of progressivism for a long time. It’s kind of like Berkeley or Ann Arbor, only with Tex-Mex thrown in. But there’s a group down there called Red Guards Austin that goes way beyond the usual social justice boilerplate. They’re no snowflakes; they’re preparing for armed revolution. And they’re fans not only of Lenin and Chairman Mao, but also Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, a.k.a. Joseph Stalin. These people are hardcore. This little snip sums up the political philosophy of Red Guards Austin: There is nothing less desirable to and more hated by the state and powers-that-be...

Hot on the heels of retailers who have halted sales of Ivanka Trump's clothing line in protest against Trump (and free marketing buzz), the tech "resistance" against Trump got its lead from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckeberg who on Thursday posted a lengthy note "rebuking isolationist “America First” sentiment, and touting the merits of globalization and a “global community” working for innovation and progress." In short, the CEO of the "social network", whose business model is predicated upon uninhibited globalization allowing advertisers to reach into every corner of the world with 3 second video clips, is calling for a global government....

A week or so ago, I sent out the YouTube links to the first 3 Bezmenov videos -- actually, mainly audios -- of the 1985 Atlanta speech by the late Yuri Bezmenov, the KGB agent who defected from the USSR. I put those clips up 6 years ago and just never got back to the necessary editing required to break up his fascinating, excellent and alarming 90 minute presentation. (If you don't recall those first 3, I've included them below as well) Yuri's warnings to the America he came to love are more timely today now that the even more...

A handwriting analysis has determined that Lech Walesa, the leader of Poland’s anticommunist Solidarity movement and later the president of Poland, was a Communist paid informant in the 1970s, according to a new official report issued on Tuesday. Mr. Walesa, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, immediately denounced the report as unreliable and politically motivated, while his supporters insisted that the full picture of his seeming collaboration with the Communist authorities was more complicated than the report suggested. The report was prepared by the state-run Institute of Forensic Research in Krakow, which analyzed more than 150 documents that were found last...

If the current excuse for an anti-war movement has proven anything, it's that preaching "Death to America" makes for strange bedfellows. Attend any "peace" rally, whether in San Francisco, London or Madrid, and you'll be struck by the seamless melding of what were once wildly divergent causes. Anti-globalization zealots no longer favor bandanas or baseball caps but Palestinian kaffiyehs. Neo-communists and atheists alike revel in guttural chants of "Allahu Akhbar" (Allah is great). And Muslim fundamentalists march brashly in step with homosexuals, feminists, and socialists. With their message becoming increasingly popular in Europe and the United States, all today's fledgling...

On January 13, Robert González Nieves, archbishop of San Juan, revealed Pope Francis’ role in Barack Obama’s pardon of terrorist mastermind Oscar Lopez-Rivera. Speaking from the Cathedral of San Juan, Nieves announced that although the Holy Father made no public statement of his involvement, he had indeed worked behind the curtain on behalf of the unrepentant, bloody-handed Lopez-Rivera. The archbishop was pleased to say: “I know that there have been efforts made through diplomatic channels. The pope is very aware. We are grateful to the Holy Father for his support.” Papal complicity in this politically charged act received little notice...

While it’s perfectly okay for people to have different opinions about what churches should say from the pulpit, especially with regard to politics, what’s not okay is for the federal government—rather than congregations themselves—to be in charge of what is said. And it won’t do to dangle the threat of taxing the church if it won’t comply. That’s why the Johnson Amendment has to go. Throughout history, the symbol of the raised fist has stood for unity, resistance, and solidarity. Social activists, leaders, and engaged citizens have used it to protest oppressive social and political ideologies. Take Nelson “Madiba” Mandela, for example, the South African president and activist who fought against apartheid. During rallies, speeches, and even the day he was released from prison, Mandela symbolized his struggle for racial equality with a raised fist. That powerful sign has connected black empowerment struggles across decades.

There’s a predictable checklist for meltdowns in socialist countries, and it’s playing out with tragic regularity in Venezuela. Nationalize agriculture? Check. Start government-enforced rationing when the food supply dries up? Check. Seal the border when people try to flee to buy food elsewhere? Check. The next step, and usually one of the last before total collapse, is runaway inflation. That’s what we’re starting to see in Venezuela. Rapid inflation, called hyperinflation by economists when it gets really bad, is one of the deadliest poisons for any economy. The spiral is usually triggered when a government prints too much money to...

Not many films can claim as their source material a novel published by the CIA and distributed by the Vatican. In fact, as far as I know, there is only one: Doctor Zhivago.Banned from publication in its native Russia for its unglamorous portrayal of the rise of communism, Boris Pasternak’s manuscript was smuggled from the country by British Intelligence and passed on to the CIA. Restrained by politics from publicly distributing the novel themselves, the agency sought help from one of communism’s most fervent foes, the Catholic Church. That’s how it came to pass that Russian citizens were able to...

Today, there are a similar number of Jews and Palestinians living between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. They have a choice. They can choose to live together in one...

Bernie Sanders hasn't decided whether he will run for president in 2020, but until the next presidential election, the former candidate is on a mission: Stop Donald Trump from hurting Americans. "You know, and I am not a guy in politics who really likes to attack viciously my opponents. It’s not my style. But I felt obliged during the campaign to say something that was just patently true, and that is that Trump is a pathological liar," Sanders said during in a Democracy Now! interview in late November that was released on Monday. "And, you know, I mean,...

CUCUTA, COLOMBIA Marili Gómez was eight months pregnant with twins in her hometown of Valencia, Venezuela, when her doctor gave her stark advice: She could either take an 18-hour bus ride and seek care in neighboring Colombia or lose the babies. As she sat in a bare, second-story walk-up in this Colombian border town feeding the newborns, Gómez said she didn’t have to think about the decision very long. Just weeks before that doctor’s visit, she’d lost her 16-year-old son to Venezuela’s violence — he was stabbed more than a dozen times in what police believe was a robbery. “I...

The student group behind Barnard College’s “trigger warning wall” is back with a new art exhibit that invites student to write their thoughts about the election on Post-it notes. The project, called “Reacting to the Election,” asks students to answer the questions “How are you?” “What do you need?” and “Where do we go from here?” on notes and post them on the wall. About 200 have been posted since the exhibit went up last month.

If you don’t fight to preserve your country, if you don’t stop listening to the brainwashing from schools and the MSM, how long is it going to be, young know-it-alls, before these “refugees” colonize you and your “social justice” narrative? I can sleep better at night now that the specter of global communism has temporarily dissipated from our America with the election and confirmation by the Electoral College of our 45th president, Donald J. Trump. One cannot imagine my temporary relief and inner peace, not having to hear Hillary’s hectoring voice, giving us lectures on social justice, equality, racism, bigotry,...

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who turns 93 in February, was endorsed on Saturday as the ruling party’s candidate in a national election scheduled for 2018. The ruling ZANU-PF party announced its support in the southeast town of Masvingo, where the party’s youth wing even proposed that Mugabe should rule for life with broad powers. Opposition groups have described such adulation as a sign that Mugabe and his loyalists are out of touch with the desperation of a nation that is suffering massive unemployment, cash shortages and company closures. …
