A woman suspected of trying to poison President Trump has reportedly been arrested. CNN reported Sunday evening, citing “a U.S. law enforcement official,” said that the unnamed woman was taken when she tried to cross from Canada into the U.S. A package containing the poison ricin was sent to Mr. Trump earlier this week but intercepted by law enforcement. The woman was carrying a gun when arrested, CNN reported. Charges are expected to be filed by U.S. prosecutors in Washington, although the short investigation has been a joint U.S.-Canadian enterprise.
  • New Zealand Plunges Into Recession As Economy Shrinks Record 12% (strangling the economy to stop COVID19 will do that)

New Zealand's economy plunged into recession for the first time in a decade on Thursday, posting a record contraction in the June quarter due to the coronavirus pandemic, as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern heads into next month's general election. "The 12.2-percent fall in quarterly GDP is by far the largest on record in New Zealand," the national statistics agency said. The reporting period covers April to June, coinciding with a strict lockdown that began in late March and began easing in late May. Stats NZ spokesman Paul Pascoe said the closure of New Zealand's borders since March 19 had also...

    Global News ^ | 20/9/20 | Joe Biden
Democratic presidential nominee and former vice president Joe Biden will speak Sunday about U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to name a third justice to the Supreme Court, a move that would cement a 6-3 conservative majority, following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Biden had said Friday that the winner of the November election should be the one to choose Ginsburg's replacement. “There is no doubt — let me be clear — that the voters should pick the president and the president should pick the justice for the Senate to consider,” Biden said Friday. .....
  • The unfolding COVID-19 pandemic: A probability-based, nationally representative study of mental health in the U.S. ["mental health crisis of unprecedented scope and scale"]

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds across the world, the scientific community has focused on understanding the transmission, biology, and treatment of the novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). To date, empirical investigations of the mental health impact of this collective trauma represent less than 3% of the published literature, (1) even though the pandemic, including its associated social and economic fallout, represents a mental health crisis of unprecedented scope and scale. (2) Globally, COVID-19 has left hundreds of millions of people at risk for serious illness or death, (3) isolated in their homes, (4) and without jobs or income. These circumstances place people...
  • Here's what Ruth Bader Ginsburg said about voting on Supreme Court nominations in election year

News of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death has triggered further division in an already fractured political world: Democrats say the Supreme Court's new vacancy should not be filled in an election year, while Republicans are vowing to hold a vote on whomever President Donald Trump nominates. But how did Ginsburg feel about election year Supreme Court nominations? Fortunately, she made it clear in 2016 when Republicans and Democrats fought over filling the vacancy left by Antonin Scalia's sudden death nine months before the election. When asked if the Senate should consider then-President Barack Obama's nominee, Merrick Garland, Ginsburg said, "That's their...

Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins is down five points to her Democratic challenger Sara Gideon, a poll released Friday shows. According to a New York Times-Siena College poll, Collins is behind Gideon 44 percent to 49 percent with less than two months before the November 3 elections. The poll did however show that 50 percent of voters view Collins very favorable or somewhat favorable compared to 47 percent who did not feel the same, The Hill reported.

This weekend, the nation will honor the legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died at age 87; soon thereafter, former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign must seize the moment and stake out a landmark candidate to replace the beloved jurist. The nominee must be someone who advances the cause of racial and gender justice and quells Republican efforts to bum-rush a replacement. What it means is that the Biden campaign cannot simply propose to nominate a woman of traditional qualifications for the court. If it is to make history, then it must spotlight a woman who...

President Trump has the right nominee at the right moment in American history. When Ruth Bader Ginsburg died Friday evening, she did so with a message for posterity which, for all the history that Ginsburg might have made as a woman on the Supreme Court, was pristine in its self-description of her time on the Court. “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” she said. The arrogance of that was par for Ginsburg’s course. The fact that Republican women haven’t been represented on the Supreme Court since Sandra Day O’Connor...

DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL nominee Joe Biden argued furiously in 2016 for the Senate to consider a Supreme Court nomination in the midst of an election season, complicating his party's efforts to derail Republicans' stated intent to proceed with President Donald Trump's replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg following her death Friday evening.

Rae’Lee Klein, the 21-year-old former station manager of the student-run station, was first targeted last month when she tweeted a New York Post article revealing the details behind Blake’s arrest warrant, she said. “Always more to the story, folks,” Klein tweeted on her personal account with a link to The Post’s story. “Please read this article to get the background of Jacob Blake’s warrant....

A “trained Marxist” founder of Black Lives Matter has teamed up on a new venture with a pro-Chinese Communist Party organization. Alicia Garza is now behind the advocacy group Black Futures Lab, which is backed by the Chinese Progressive Association, according to the website. The group says it “gathers information about the ways that policy affects black communities” to educate and challenge lawmakers.
