Online knitting and crocheting community Ravelry has banned all content supporting President Donald Trump, effective June 23. A statement posted Sunday to the group’s website outlined the new policy: “We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration on Ravelry. This includes support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content.” “We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy,” the statement concluded.

I have been writing while traveling about Australia. While working on an article, I searched for AR15 style pistols. The search found the information I wanted to access on I attempted to access, but repeatedly received the error message:It seemed odd. I contacted a source I have in Australia, and asked them to see if they could access the site.  They verified the lack of access and more. They sent me a link to a news article about telecommunication companies acting in concert to censor information from Australian customers. From, 21 March 2019: Dozens of websites...
  • Google Chrome has become surveillance software. It’s time to switch.

Our latest privacy experiment found Chrome ushered more than 11,000 tracker cookies into our browser — in a single week. Here’s why Firefox is better. Over a recent week of Web surfing, I peered under the hood of Google Chrome and found it brought along a few thousand friends. Shopping, news and even government sites quietly tagged my browser to let ad and data companies ride shotgun while I clicked around the Web. This was made possible by the Web’s biggest snoop of all: Google. Seen from the inside, its Chrome browser looks a lot like surveillance software. Please follow...

Republican Senator Josh Hawley has introduced a bill aimed at stopping censorship on social media platforms based on political ideologies. The ‘Ending Support for Internet Censorship Act‘ seeks to remove protections granted by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act if platforms are not acting neutral in regards to political views. Currently, platforms cannot be held responsible for user-posted content, as they are not considered publishers. As these companies become more political — and take an editorial stance, many have called for these protections to be stripped.

Full Title: FBI Serves Incredibly Broad Warrant To 8chan, Demanding Info On All Users Who Responded To A Shooter's Post Internet hellhole 8chan has been hit with a federal search warrant. The site, created to serve those who felt 4chan's nearly-nonexistent moderation was too restrictive, has been front and center recently due to its hosting of manifestos by mass shooters who apparently frequented the site. In this case, an investigation into a shooting at a California mosque has led the FBI to the pages of 8chan. Postings at the site -- along with some at Facebook -- have linked the...

On the night of March 9th, 2018, Utley slumped over at his desk. Co-workers noticed that he was in distress when he began sliding out of his chair. Two of them began to perform CPR, but no defibrillator was available in the building. A manager called for an ambulance “They wanted to play it down. I think they were worried about people quitting with the emotional impact it would have.” But the illusion shattered later that day, when Utley’s father, Ralph, came to the site to gather his belongings. He walked into the building and, according to a co-worker I...

Worth reading. The claim is that Mark Zuckerberg was just a puppet for the deep-state that wanted to control minds - all with stolen tech, that others put together. Claims of "many many" crimes - and now they're deliberately trying to destroy FB via anti-trust laws, break it up and become even more rich.

Twitter suspended the account of David Neiwert, a reporter for Daily Kos and author of the book Alt-America, on Tuesday, making him the latest journalist covering white supremacists and the far right to be hit with a temporary ban. Neiwert said in a phone interview he was banned because the top image on his Twitter profile included an illustration from his book cover, which featured Ku Klux Klan hoods atop a series of stars from the American flag. Twitter put a notice on his suspended page, reading: “@DavidNeiwert's account is temporarily unavailable because it violates the Twitter Media Policy.” The...

"A week after Steven Crowder’s bullying of a Vox journalist pitted conservative media against Big Tech, it’s official: Crowder has won." That was the very sad news that left-leaning Vice News relayed to its "progressive" readers on Tuesday. The YouTube censorship crackdown on Steven Crowder's Louder With Crowder channel completely backfired. Rather than hurting him via demonetization even though they admitted he violated no YouTube policy, the conclusion of the news site that's having its HBO show cancelled was that it has only made him stronger.

News that Chicago police charged Jussie Smollett with staging a brutal attack on himself was covered on every network and in every major newspaper, but Google is hiding searches of it from its platform due to concerns of "potentially disparaging" the liberal actor. A review of Google's autocomplete function on searches of Smollett found no references to anything regarding the hate crime, even though the company's own data show it is the only reason his name was ever searched. The top suggested searches for Smollett included Empire (a show he no longer has a role in), Mighty Ducks (a nearly...

The Internet has enabled the flourishing of countless subcultures, from the harmless to the less so. Lately, one of the latter groups has begun to break into the mainstream: the “incels.” “Incel” is short for “involuntary celibate,” and as their self-imposed name implies, these mostly young men have come to define themselves by their inability to find a sexual or romantic partner. Men who identify as being #ForeverAlone have gathered online in forums such as Reddit to trade stories of woe. These communities tend to be self-reinforcing. Members believe that their looks or personal traits have consigned them to lifelong...

Police in Germany launched dozens of raids across the country on Thursday as part of a crackdown on incitement crimes being spread on the internet. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has said it searched residences in 13 federal states as part of a coordinated operation. One of the largest operations took place in the western city of Koblenz, where the apartments of 12 suspects were searched in connection to two right-wing extremist Facebook groups. The 12 suspects were between the ages of 45 and 68, and were believed to be responsible for the groups called “The Patriots,” and “Our...

The largest invasion in history, and Google just has its logo on the home page. Oh, let's make sure to commemorate the 50th anniversary of some gay milestone a few days ago, but 156,000 men charging relentlessly onto those beaches, under withering gunfire, to literally save the world?
