Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has received a formal warning from Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) for operating in the country without registering with the regulatory agency as a cryptocurrency trading platform. In a letter dated March 23 and addressed to Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, the FSA warned the exchange operator to cease operating in Japan without a license. The company had said it intends to seek FSA licensure, but it had already moved staff into Tokyo and had allowed Japanese residents to trade on the exchange, which currently only offers cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency trading pairs. Nikkei had reported Thursday that the FSA would...

When a 39-year-old met a man in a St. Paul parking lot to buy an iPhone Thursday, it quickly turned into a robbery. The man put a gun to his side and snatched $500 from him, police said Friday. But the man being robbed was a permit-to-carry holder, and he pulled out his own gun and shot at the suspect about 5:30 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman. He later told police he feared for his life and fired in self-defense, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday against the alleged robber. The suspect ran away....

According to statements made by the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology (AAPT) – part of the China Aerospace and Technology Corporation (CASC) and the one’s responsible for developing the hardware – these engines would be capable of delivering 3,500 to 4,000 metric tons (3,858 to 4,409 US tons) of thrust. AAPT also indicated that work on a second-stage and third-stage engine – which would be capable of generating about 200 metric tons (440,000 lbs) and 25 metric tons (55,000 lbs) thrust, respectively – is also in progress. All told, this is roughly six times the thrust that China’s heaviest rocket...

Republicans, not to be confused with conservatives, have produced a $1.3 trillion with a “T” spending bill to direct the money we borrow from China. For all the crowing about reducing the unconstitutional federal footprint in education, funding for the Department of Education (USED) will receive an increase – that’s increase, not decrease – of $3.9 billion. Generally, increasing a department’s budget isn’t the preferred method of winding down its responsibilities. So this budget reveals zero federal intention to restore local control in education. It also reveals critical information about the current debate on the latest fad: “evidence-based policymaking.” House...

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned – and that proved true after a woman in central Florida beat her husband after he allegedly forgot their wedding anniversary. According to Pasco County sheriffs, Carol Stone, 35, smacked the victim several times on his head and face area, leaving red marks on his face, along with minor scratches to his neck and chest. The victim provided video of the incident to police, which he recorded on his cell phone. Police said it shows Stone beating the victim. When sheriff’s deputies interviewed Stone, she admitted to beating him because he forgot...

The post, which has been shared more than 339,000 times, reads as follows: I don’t understand how can someone do this. Poor waiter was just doing their job and to have someone take it without reason. She left $20 tip to only have someone else take it. It features two videos. In the first video, you see two women getting ready to leave Casa Mexicana on Hacks Cross. One of them places money on the table – a tip...

Iran’s theocracy represents the antithesis of Canada’s liberal democracy, as it violently constrains its citizens’ speech, movement and religious observance, and deliberately enforces barriers to gender equality. While Canada does not, and should not, limit its interactions only to states that share its ideals, neither should we actively seek to court and reward governments that sponsor terrorism, repress their own people and arbitrarily arrest, torture and kill our citizens. Any dealings with such countries need to be part of a larger framework that reflects our values and protects our interests. Trudeau is an avowed feminist and human rights defender, but...

Catholic sociologist Stephen Bullivant has issued a detailed report on the state of Christianity in Europe. It is not encouraging. Bullivant, who teaches at St. Mary’s University, outside of London, is director of the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion and Society. The report, “European Young Adults and Religion,” measured religious practice and affiliation in 22 countries; the data were taken from a survey of those aged 16-29. The proportion of young adults with no religious affiliation ranges from a high of 91 percent in the Czech Republic to a low of 17 percent in Poland. Following the Czech Republic are...

Thousands upon thousands of media reports over the last year and a half have intimated, suggested, or flat-out asserted that President Donald Trump is a traitor who colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton. What this widely held theory lacks in evidence, its diehard supporters in the media and other anti-Trump bastions make up for with their faith-filled conviction of its truth. An alternate storyline has been unfolding over that same time. The basic contour is that claims Trump stole the election by treasonously colluding with Russia are the result of a coordinated campaign that was...

SĂO PAULO—With “jewel-tone eyes,” blond hair and a “smattering of light freckles,” Othello looks nothing like most Brazilians, the majority of whom are black or mixed-race. Yet the “Caucasian” American cashier, described in those terms by the Seattle Sperm Bank and known as Donor 9601, is one of the sperm providers most often requested by wealthy Brazilian women importing the DNA of young U.S. men at unprecedented rates. Over the past seven years, human semen imports from the U.S. to Brazil have surged some 3,000% as more rich single women and lesbian couples select donors whose online profiles suggest they...

Washington D.C. government officials are flocking to doomsday camps around the country.  Which of course begs the question: what do they know that we do not?According to the Washington Examiner, a building network of backwoods doomsday camps around the country are pulling in members from affluent areas and even Washington national security officials as the threats grow from nuclear war, an EMP (electromagnetic pulse), or virus attack.  Dubbed Fortitude Ranch, the outposts promise protection and a year’s supply of food for those unable to build their own bunker with preparations for a SHTF scenario. What’s more, until a crisis strikes, the doomsday...

I am posting this because I was completely taken aback by an ex-professor friend of mine, (a HISTORY professor at that!!) who actually suggested that a public figure, with whom he didn't agree, be silenced. That's right, SILENCED, simply for not agreeing with his particular worldview. Astounding. Good Lord, what happened to the free expression of ideas, freedom of speech? To freely express ideas, no matter how reppellant, is the cornerstone of a free society. Once we venture down the road of censoring and silencing, we could be finished in short order. It only took Germany, and Hitler's National Socialist...
