The woman approached President Emmanuel Macron on the street and asked him for help acquiring French citizenship papers, according to Morocco World News. Macron acknowledged the woman’s situation, but replied that France cannot realistically help everyone who asks, nor is the nation obligated to do so. Likewise, France must put its own people first: "In France, we will protect all people who are in the asylum [system] and who are not safe in their country. But we can not accommodate everyone who comes with working or student visas and who stay after. To be completely frank, you have to go...

It started with an apology on Twitter. And not just an apology: A full-on acknowledgment of improper and counter-revolutionary thoughts, of the kind that Chairman Mao Zedong’s Red Guards used to extract from their victims. It came from Paperchase, a popular British stationery retailer. You’ll find one on pretty much any UK high street, selling pens and birthday cards and paperclips. Anyway, here is what it said. “We’ve listened to you about this weekend’s newspaper promotion. We now know we were wrong to do this – we’re truly sorry and we won’t ever do it again. Thanks for telling us...

A 23-year-old migrant, named Juusuf Muhamed Abbud, was acquitted from aggravated rape despite having intercourse with a ten-year-old girl. The court said it was not clear that the girl was “unable to defend herself and express her lack of consent”. According to the Helsinki times: “The Turku Court of Appeal ruled last week that the defendant was guilty of aggravated child sexual abuse but not of aggravated rape and sentenced him to only three years in prison”, thus upholding a ruling issued in March by the District Court of Pirkanmaa. The defendant was acquitted of the charge of aggravated rape...

Graham Norton has told of his concerns at the rise of right-wing politics in the world, but admitted he fears the consequences of sharing his opinions online. The BBC chat show host, who has previously spoken about his shock that Britain voted to leave the EU, also said he struggles to imagine what life will be like post-Brexit, suggesting London could turn into “a ghost town”.

4 Hours Ago Pharmacy chain CVS will purchase insurance giant Aetna in a deal value at $69 billion, The Associated Press reported Sunday. The move will dramatically expand the drugstore juggernaut's health services; a historic amplification which could transform the health care industry. If approved by regulators, CVS' 9,700 locations could morph into health care centers, providing its consumers with primary care and other services and dramatically lowering the cost of health care. The unprecedented merging of retail and health care is likely to spark similar deals throughout the industry, experts said.

While everyone's talking about special counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation into the Trump campaign's communication with the Russian government, the president's lawyers are preparing for an altogether different case. On Tuesday, in a New York state Supreme Court hearing, they're expected to try to have a defamation case against the president dismissed. If they fail, the president could be forced to testify on allegations that he sexually harassed more than a dozen women. The suit was filed by Summer Zervos, a former contestant on "The Apprentice," who claimed last year that Trump "very aggressively" kissed her, groped her breasts,...
  • Council Bill Would Prohibit Bulletproof Glass at Convenience Stores [Philadelphia]

Earlier this month, Councilwoman Cindy Bass introduced a bill to better regulate the hundreds of “stop and go” convenience stores that operate predominantly in Philadelphia’s low-income neighborhoods. Among its stipulations, the controversial measure would prohibit any physical barrier that separates cashiers from customers at these so-called “nuisance” establishments – including protective bulletproof glass. According to Bass, these storefronts take advantage of the city’s lax restaurant liquor license provision while contributing to a variety of quality-of-life issues in low-income communities. Content to rely solely on the sale of cigarettes and alcohol, along with a bag of Doritos or two, many of...

Too many of America’s elderly are aging on the streets. They need our help. WASHINGTON, DC – Here’s a startling statistic from the Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD]: “the homeless population is aging faster than the general population in the United States.” Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC], calls it “a shameless embarrassment in a country with a tradition of helping the needy. Growing old is a condition we all have to live with. But too many of America’s elderly are aging on the streets. They need our help.” Weber points out that...

With all of the chaos going on in D.C. and around the country, it's easy for some stories to fall through the cracks. Here are three of this week's underreported stories we thought you should know about. Some will make you cringe...while others will make you laugh.3. A doomsday prepper spent the last 30 years illegally prepping for a disaster. An 80-year-old Utah man spent the last 30 years illegally stockpiling guns and grenades. • Flynn’s plea doesn’t prove collusion (Op Ed throws cold water on Dems this morning)

Friday morning’s guilty plea from former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn is a major disappointment for Democrats. Flynn admitting to having made false statements is nowhere near where the Democrats want this to go. Of course, the story is big and the fact that a former White House official has been charged with anything and pleaded guilty is consequential, but it doesn’t suggest any collusion occurred and it doesn’t even get close to confirming that Donald Trump or his campaign was somehow complicit in a nefarious scheme.

Something terrible happened on Thursday evening. The killer of Kate Steinle was found innocent. I say “killer” despite the fact that he was found innocent because he most certainly was her killer. As a matter of fact, the seven-time felon confessed to her killing in an ABC TV interview. This felon and illegal alien from Mexico was deported five times but came back across our porous border again and again- each time breaking the law. The last time he was released from prison, San Francisco would not allow his deportation. Kate had two killers. Liberal San Francisco was a willing...

A Mexican man will be deported after he was found not guilty in the killing of Kate Steinle, whose death while out walking on a San Francisco pier reignited a national debate over immigration policy. Jurors acquitted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 45, of murder and involuntary manslaughter, as well as assault with a deadly weapon. They convicted him of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The undocumented immigrant faces up to three years in prison, but has already spent more than two years in jail awaiting trial and may get credit for time served. He has not been...

Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said the governor signed the bill Thursday but his office didn't issue any news releases about it. The bill passed the Legislature unanimously. The measure's sponsor, Republican Rep. Jesse Kremer, tweeted Thursday that the bill will make Wisconsin a leader in hemp production. His tweet included the hashtag "AmericasHempland."
